On June 22, 1941, Nazi Germany, in what many consider to be one of the greatest strategic blunders of all time, opened a second front in the war in Europe when they launched Operation Barbarosse and the invasion of the Soviet Union. It is no secret that CNN is already at war with Conservatives and Republicans (What else can you call 93% negative coverage of the President that we elected?) and thus it boggles the mind why they would willingly open a second front in that war with a direct invasion of Free Speech and Liberty by attempting to bully a Reddit user into behaving in a manner that CNN finds appropriate. Especially when they launched their assault at the corner of the web where freedom of speech and liberty to say anything are the two highest virtues. CNN’s statement in regards their hunt for the creator of the Trump wrestling meme amounts to blackmail and some like Ted Cruz and Wikileaks have even gone as far as to suggest that their statement is criminal in that it may violate state and federal criminal statutes on coercion.
CNN is not publishing “HanA**holeSolo’s” name because he is a private citizen who has issued an extensive statement of apology, showed his remorse by saying he has taken down all his offending posts, and because he said he is not going to repeat this ugly behavior on social media again. In addition, he said his statement could serve as an example to others not to do the same.
CNN reserves the right to publish his identity should any of that change.
Had CNN ended that paragraph at 12 words there would not have been a controversy. Hell, they might have even picked up some much-needed respect for their integrity. However, CNN had to virtue signal about the evils of internet bullying… by bullying. They bragged about his extensive apology, they crowed about him removing all his “offending posts” and boasted about him never repeating the behavior and how they essentially forced him into submission to serve as an example to others. Then they went on to essentially threaten that individual that they would move through with publishing his identity should he not adhere to his new and improved enlightened behavior as decreed by CNN. Just so we are all on the same page let’s recap… CNN a worldwide multibillion dollar organization got upset that a private citizen engaged in the exercise of his constitutionally protected free speech to make a meme that poked fun at the same multibillion dollar organization’s recent missteps and then invested resources (money & employee’s time) to track down this private citizen and essentially threaten him if he continued to engage in behavior that they disliked. Does this sound like the behavior of an American corporation or wartime German Gestapo?

In CNN’s world view legions of anonymous sources, many of whom have turned out to be wrong, who help them drive their fake Russian conspiracy narrative deserve anonymity while a private citizen who created a joke meme that is critical of CNN is only given the same courtesy if they retract and promise not to make fun of the liberal media. Now the liberal media love to run with the story that President Trump is thin skinned and loves to punch down, but seriously pot… kettle. No, the wrestling meme was not racist, anti-sematic nor did it promote violence against the media. It was joke and it was funny, but what made it sting so badly for CNN… it was true. It perfectly encapsulated how CNN’s battle with the President has gone thus far. No CNN you have lost any sympathy or moral high ground that you might have once enjoyed. Between the fake stories which you have been forced to retract, Project Veritas exposing your hypocrisy in pursuit of ratings instead of the truth, your hyperbolic fixations on nonstories and now your blackmail of private citizens your organization may very well be circling the drain.

Liberal media promoted the “Fake News” term to try and brand Conservative websites as illegitimate to discredit their voices… irony here is that many of them that pushed this narrative are finding themselves caught in a web of their own making because their hatred of President Trump and Conservatives is clouding their judgement and common sense. Now in an effort to shut down dissenting voices on the internet that are bullying their multibillion dollar company (read private citizens making joke meme) CNN has violated two of the three golden rules; Don’t get into a land war in Asia, don’t fight a war on two fronts and don’t poke trolls in the eye. Now instead of there being a single Trump vs. CNN meme there are hundreds. Now instead of threatening to dox private citizens because they disagree with the CNN world view, their reporters and workers are being doxed. Now instead of being a voice of credibility and truth they are no more than #CNNBlackmail.
CNN did not just threaten one person when they added their caveat, but threatened anyone who dare make satirical memes about them and in doing so set the entirety of the internet against them. Some are even saying that CNN even got the target of the blackmail threats wrong and the meme can actually be traced to someone else. In any case, CNN you are in the wrong here and the way back to credibility is going to be painful. You need to issue a public apology to HanAssholeSolo and anyone who had anything to do with this poorly veiled threat needs to be disciplined or fired; otherwise you will remain nothing more than a punchline in an endless string of Trump vs. CNN memes.
