In the throes of cognitive dissonance our outgoing President (24 days and counting) once again proves he is completely clueless when it comes to the middle of the country. In the liberal safe space of CNN, the President in an interview with David Axelrod shows just how out of step the Democratic coastal elites are with the middle of America.
“We – we devoted more attention, more focus, put more resources into rural America than has – has been the case probably for the last two, three decades…” “And – and it paid great dividends, but you just wouldn’t know that, that’s not something that you would see on the nightly news. And so we’ve got to figure out how do we show people and communicate in a way that is visceral and – and makes an emotional connection as opposed to just the facts…”
No Mr. President the facts should be convincing all by themselves. The middle of the country is not going to be swayed by emotional pleas, but will instead look around and see for themselves how well things are going. When you know several people that are part of the 94 million Americans out of the labor force or worse are one of those people who have been without a job for long enough to no longer be counted by the unemployment statistics, there is a pretty compelling case that what is being done is in fact not working. No, the nightly news has reported diligently that your policies are working, unfortunately those same people who watch also drive by all those shuttered factories. What you do not understand about Middle America Mr. President, is they do not want a government handout, they want the satisfaction of a job to earn their way.
“I don’t worry about that, partly because I think that the Democratic Party has stayed pretty grounded in fact and reality. Trump emerged out of a decade, maybe two, in which the Republican Party, because it had to say no for tactical reasons, moved further and further and further away from what we would consider to be a – a basic consensus around things like climate change or how the economy works.”
The fact and reality Mr. President is that you have never run a small business and fail to understand how excessive regulation and red tape stifle the growth of the economy. Part of the reason your presidency has never achieved a GPD of 3% is because you have chosen to surround yourself with people who lack a basic understanding of the realities of running a small business that is not subsidized by the government. You want Middle America to care about your pet projects for social justice then you need to take away their concerns for how they are going to feed their families first.
“And it started filling up with all kinds of conspiracy theorizing that became kind of common wisdom or conventional wisdom within the Republican Party base. That hasn’t happened in the Democratic Party. I think people like the passion that Bernie brought, but Bernie Sanders is a pretty centrist politician relative to…”
Mr. Soon to be Ex-President, unless the next words in this statement are Lenin, Stalin or Mao you are really out of your mind. It is astounding to think that in the last 8 years the Democratic Party has shifted so far to the left that Bernie Sanders is considered a centrist. In what universe is Bernie the socialist who rallied a generation of entitled millennials to his cause by promising to give away the house a centrist? How can Democrats explain the loss of over 1,000 seats in government across Local, State and Federal level positions over the last eight years if they embody the American center?
No Mr. President I think it is time for you to face a reality that you cannot paint over by blaming Bush, the media or the Russians. On January 20th 2017 your legacy will be dismantled. The election was as much a referendum of your policies and governing philosophy as it was a rejection of Hillary Clinton by the middle of America. I know that it is difficult for you to square the reality with the perceived greatness of your presidency, but Middle America is ready for “Hope and Change”, just not in the way you were expecting.
